I ran into Whitney unexpectedly on a tennis court in Los Angeles while I was bringing Courting to life. We were at her club and quickly realized we both trained with the same tennis pro, without knowing it. Tennis has always been the common thread, and that moment made the idea of working together feel natural.
There was already history. I grew up in Manhattan with her husband, Timmy, and attended their wedding in Palm Springs a decade earlier. That familiarity made the reconnection real and easy.
Whitney is someone I’ve long admired. I was drawn to her thoughtful, honest approach to creativity and fashion. She’s intuitive, grounded, and clear about what feels right, which aligns closely with how I think about Courting.
When I reached out, the brand was still taking shape. I asked if she’d be open to exploring something together as the idea evolved. She didn’t hesitate. Whitney leaned in early, offering her time, perspective, and creative involvement when things were still coming together.
What followed became a capsule shaped through lived experience, not concept alone. We worked closely, talking through what tennis fashion often misses and what feels disconnected from how the game is actually lived. Whitney brought her unique perspective, while I drew from my own references, playing varsity tennis in the late 90s and early 2000s. The balance felt intuitive from the start.
Whitney was involved from the very beginning. She was integral throughout the process from fittings and fabric selection to sampling and styling, shaping the pieces through wear, repetition, and movement rather than concept alone.
Nearly a decade after celebrating Whitney’s wedding in Palm Springs, we found ourselves back there again, this time introducing something we built together. I don’t overthink coincidences, but the timing felt right.
We chose to debut the capsule privately at The Parker Palm Springs during the BNP Paribas Open week. Palm Springs during the tournament brings together tennis, fashion, and community in a way that reflects how I see the game. Not just as sport, but as culture.
This capsule is the result of shared history, trust, and intention. It feels personal, lived in, and rooted in how tennis actually exists in our lives.
The Courting x Whitney collection will be available following its Palm Springs debut on March 5th at CourtingTennis.com.
